Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I am excited to serve teachers, parents, and students of all levels again this year!

A bit about me:

I began my career, right after my graduation from The University of North Texas and the birth of my first beautiful son.  I “student taught” and was hired by the Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD as a general education kindergarten teacher (guided by my mentor, a master teacher with a master's degree in special education). Under her mentorship, I learned the power of observation and practiced the important work of helping all students develop academic concepts based on prior knowledge and present developmental levels of functioning.

During my first year I also learned the profile of a "gifted learner" and served on a committee designing the district’s first gifted and talented program for elementary schools beginning in Kindergarten. In the classroom I gained the social emotional confidence of my students and began understanding my students' thinking by asking them questions and listening to their responses. Guiding each student through a sequence of ah-ha/joyful learning experiences from the classroom to the playground energized me. After 3 years of close mentoring and documentation of student progress, I learned "when" to refer struggling students for diagnostic testing.

From Carrollton-Farmers-Branch ISD, I headed the lower school Math Department and taught kindergarten at Lakehill Preparatory School in Dallas followed by the challenge of teaching Spanish-speaking students in Mt. Pleasant ISD. That is where my passion for bilingual education began. During my teaching at MPISD, I attended graduate school at Texas A&M Commerce earning a university-based certification in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language.

Fascinated with learning differences in my students, I went on to teach first grade at a bilingual school in Houston (Spring Branch ISD), then to a kindergarten position at Eanes ISD in West Lake Hills/Austin. After moving to San Antonio and having 2 more beautiful children, I hit the jackpot by teaching at Howard.

Here I found my early childhood community and fell in love with teaching students with special needs. Under the mentorship of Consuelo Davis, Howard's autism specialist, I learned effective ABA techniques and how to collect data on student performance. Later, I earned a Special Education Certification and worked under Howard's beloved Linda Duffy as a resource teacher. The following year, I became the ECSE teacher and director of the famous Mini-Mule Program. Since then, I have moved on to serve all students with special needs, including bilingual students and other English language learners.

I begin this year with my continued love for all cultures and languages and a renewed commitment in partnership with parents, guardians, colleagues and, of course, all precious students for a year of joyous learning.

My policy remains "open door".  Please email or text me anytime you have a question or concern so we can visit.  Meanwhile, I welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year!👏🥳

Saludos cordiales,

Terrie Flinn.
